In
1995, Shed Recording Studios in
Harare set up a new division,
initially called "Prosound" but subsequently Pro-Active
Audio.
The company’s mission was to broker the supply of professional
audio equipment into Zimbabwe and to setup a sound rentals division
to support local events.
Both activities were very successful, and regional distributorships
were subsequently secured for AKG Acoustics,
Proel Distribution,
Alcatel connectors and Ernie Ball
guitar strings.
The company acted as a major dealer in Electro-Voice
loudspeakers
and Crown amplifiers.
The company was extremely active in outdoor concerts, embassy functions
touring shows and theatre sound.
In
1998 it provided extensive sound facilities for the
World Council of Churches 8th Assembly
in Harare.
In 1999 however, with a worsening national foreign exchange availability,
Zimbabwe could no longer support the level of imports demanded by
the company for its customers, and with regret, many of its operations
were curtailed.
In October 2000 Director Steve Roskilly
moved from Zimbabwe
and set up Pro-Active Audio UK .
The company designed and installed a suite of radio broadcast studios
in London, followed by a period of establishing operational systems
.
In 2003 Steve Roskilly joined Cheltenham Stage
Services, a
provider of sound and lighting
for the events industry, taking it through a broad re-equipment programme,
new premises, development of operating systems, staff changes, etc.,
to a position of profitability.
He has subsequently relinquished this position to concentrate on installation
business once more as Pro-Active Audio UK.
Pro-Active Audio Zimbabwe merged with The
Rainbow Music Company,
bringing with it the Allen and Heath
distributorship
and is now under the batons of Andrew McClymont and Rob Hollands.
Both companies work closely together.
Pro-Active
Audio Zimbabwe continues to hold the distributorships for
AKG Acoustics of Austria and Allen and Heath of Britain.
