THE ZIMBABWE BACKSTORY In 1995, Steve Roskilly, Owner of the 20 year old Shed Recording Studios in Harare, Zimbabwe, set up a new live sound division, initially named "Prosound" but subsequently called Pro-Active Audio. The companys mission was to broker the supply of professional audio equipment into Zimbabwe and to support local events by hiring out sound gear. Notwithstanding the lack of hard currency in the country's economy, both activities were remarkably successful, and regional sales distributorships were subsequently soon secured for AKG Acoustics, Proel Distribution, Alcatel connectors and Ernie Ball guitar strings. The company acted as a major dealer in Electro-Voice loudspeakers and Crown amplifiers under dealerships from South African distributors. A steady
stream of outdoor and indoor concerts, embassy functions, touring shows,
sporting events and theatre sound were undertaken, culminating in the
international World Council of Churches 8th Assembly, held in 1998,
where the company provided all sound systems, and recording facilities
for 15 venues over a 3 week period. |
