A wide experience in Sound

THE ZIMBABWE BACKSTORY

In 1995, Steve Roskilly, Owner of the 20 year old Shed Recording Studios in Harare, Zimbabwe, set up a new live sound division, initially named "Prosound" but subsequently called Pro-Active Audio.

The company’s mission was to broker the supply of professional audio equipment into Zimbabwe and to support local events by hiring out sound gear.

Notwithstanding the lack of hard currency in the country's economy, both activities were remarkably successful, and regional sales distributorships were subsequently soon secured for AKG Acoustics, Proel Distribution, Alcatel connectors and Ernie Ball guitar strings.

The company acted as a major dealer in Electro-Voice loudspeakers and Crown amplifiers under dealerships from South African distributors.

A steady stream of outdoor and indoor concerts, embassy functions, touring shows, sporting events and theatre sound were undertaken, culminating in the international World Council of Churches 8th Assembly, held in 1998, where the company provided all sound systems, and recording facilities for 15 venues over a 3 week period.

In 1999 however, the steadily worsening national foreign exchange availability, could no longer support the level of imports demanded by the company for its customers, and with regret, many of its operations were curtailed.

In October 2000 the company's Managing Director and owner of Shed Studios, Steve Roskilly, relocated out of Zimbabwe and set up
Pro-Active Audio UK.

Pro-Active Audio Zimbabwe merged with Rob Holland's Rainbow Music Company, adding the Allen and Heath distributorship to its existing AKG Acoustics distributorship. The operation is now under the batons of Andrew McClymont and Rob Hollands.

WHERE WE ARE NOW

Pro-Active Audio UK initially designed and installed a suite of 2 radio broadcast studios in Borehamwood, North London, followed by a 2 year period as Technical Manager.

In 2003 Roskilly joined Cheltenham Stage Services, a provider of sound and lighting facilities for the events industry. Initially as General Manager, but more latterly as its Managing Director and minority shareholder, taking it through a broad re-equipment programme and into new premises. Having recovered profitability, he subsequently moved on, relinquishing his directorship.

Since the end of 2008 Pro-Active Audio has continued to run high quality live sound equipment for events as well as undertaking a succession of installations and providing equipment exports.

The company supports the audio needs of its video associate - Production AV Ltd.

Both the Zimbabwe and British companies continue to work closely together.
