Newent
Community School
Pro-Active Audio
has completed lighting and sound Installation work at Newent Community
School for CSS. A partial failure of a section of the school hall
roof resulted in the whole false ceiling being removed to enable proper
repairs to take place. This meant the removal of the original lighting
bars and attendant cabling.
The School wisely
sought to have the whole lighting system updated, and called upon
CSS to organise this. The job was given over to Pro-Active to tackle,
and Steve Roskilly set about specifying and quoting.
The school wanted
to upgrade the dimmer capability from 18 channels to 24, and to go
to digital patching rather than revert to its old 15A cordpatch unit.
A new 63Amp 3 phase mains has been brought into the stage-left dimmer
position, and a Strand Wallrack 24 from AC Lighting has been used
to distribute to 7 bars. The Andolite hall bars form a 6 x 9m box,
and 3 x 12 outlet bars are used onstage.
Only 4 new Selecon
Rama 1kW fresnels have been ordered since the school already holds
a fair selection of lanterns, but the school has stretched to 4 x
Robe 250AT moving heads. The system is to be controlled from an ETC
Smartfade ML board, bringing the school's capability to the very pinnacle
of school theatre lighting facilities
The elctrical
contractor Bob Main of AC Mains Ltd provided all the cableways and
new three phase cabling.
Oh....
and Sound Too !
In mid project,
the school reassessed it's multicore needs, and asked for the existing
24 way cable to be relaid into the ceiling void and a further 12 channels
to be installed, so that each cable fed one side of the stage. PAA
installed a wall box at sound control position (back of Hall) housing
a 37 and an 85 pin VDM multi connector and provided 2 new connector
to fantails.
The school is
now looking at their next development into a new mixer and loudspeaker
system.
